Combining academic study with professional theatre practice

The saying goes ‘practice makes perfect’, but one of the most significant issues when studying is getting enough practise to make you industry-ready upon graduation. At the University of Bolton, our Theatre courses combine academic study with the heavy influence of industry knowledge and practice so that you can leave education with a degree and a working skillset.

Our Theatre & Performance courses are informed by current industry practice and benefit from strong links with industry. Our partnership with the Octagon Theatre Bolton is just one of the ways we ensure our students get the training on the stage they need to succeed in their careers.

Teaching is undertaken in dedicated studio and performance spaces in our Specialist Queen’s Theatre Building, as well as at the Octagon Theatre. Not only that, but our lecturers and staff also have a large archive of industry experience to pull upon when passing on knowledge.

Our tutors, lecturers and partnership companies all have experience and knowledge in particular areas such as:

  • Arts administration and management
  • Cultural policy
  • Education and community arts
  • Events management
  • Media or creative arts
  • Performance and contemporary theatre practice
  • Technical production

As a graduate of a Theatre or Performing Arts degree, you will possess skills, knowledge and experience that will prove invaluable for your future career.

Already have a qualification in the Performing Arts?

The University of Bolton’s Top-up Theatre And Performance course is your chance to build on your existing qualification to achieve a full honours degree. The top-up offers students the opportunity to undertake placements, develop professional and practical skills, and gain an understanding of the work within these creative industries.
