How Shakespeare is still shaping theatre today

William Shakespeare is still famous hundreds of years after producing his work. From his playwrights and theatre productions to his influence on language and literature. It wouldn't be going too far to say that Shakespeare has profoundly influenced modern-day dialogue and the expectation of how audiences should react to different kinds of entertainment.

Shakespeare's first plays changed the world of theatre and helped to mould it into what we know it as today.

Shakespeare has contributed to many aspects of life, because of this, he will always be regarded in history as one of the most important figures of our time.

Shakespeare quotes, sayings and words that are still in use today

To be or not to be? That is the most common question, but you'll be surprised to know that many of the quotes, sayings and words that we use today come from Shakespeare.

Examples of Shakespeare still in use today:

  • When you meet someone for the first time and you "Break the Ice"
  • Ever said, Hey, it's not "The be-all and end-all"
  • Wrap up warm. You wouldn't want to "catch a cold"
  • You have a "Heart of gold"

These sayings are well known in the English language. They have become a way to express our thoughts, feelings and actions. Without Shakespeare's influence, who knows what we would be saying today!

Why should all performers learn in the ways of Shakespearean acting?

Shakespearean trained actors and actresses can play Shakespearean parts with the same depth and panache as their original actors. Without the right training and knowledge, it would be challenging for any budding actor to play a Shakespearean part. These classics are almost the As, Bs and Cs of the acting world, and every performer should have one play in their repertoire.

This type of acting is useful in today's world as it can train the imagination of an actor which is vital to a successful career, to begin your journey in the performing arts and learn more about Shakespeare’s influence you can study Theatre and Performing Arts at the University of Bolton.
