Working for the community is a rewarding job, whether you’re a volunteer or full-time worker, it always feels good to help other people. For Social Workers, helping others is their first priority, whether that be assisting a family in a troublesome situation or safeguarding children. This varied role brings multiple opportunities to help others.
One of the most rewarding roles as a Social Worker is helping the youth of today. Many children find themselves in difficult situations, surrounded by negative people and influences, but the help of a Social Worker can turn things around for them.
A lot of the time, children in foster care or children’s homes are disregarded as valuable citizens. With resources stretched to the maximum, often a lack of education or nutrition can easily be overlooked; this is where Social Workers come into play.
A Social Worker has the opportunity to bond with a young person and influence their outlook on life. Small aspects like urging them to eat the vegetables so they have the energy to play well in their football game, or perhaps complete their homework so they can receive that merit in class.
It only takes a few meaningful conversations for Social Workers to have an impact on a child’s life, which is why we train our students to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
By studying at the University of Bolton, you will also get the chance to develop your knowledge on areas such as the impact of injustice, demography and social inequality including safeguarding and the signs of abuse, harm, neglect and exploitation. You will learn to put the needs of people first and ensure that their voice is heard and influences any decisions made.
