Theatre and Performance Showcase 2019

On Tuesday 11th June 2019, Theatre and Performance final year students took to the stage at The Lowry Theatre to share their final performances.

The night was an eclectic mix of new writing, solo performances and contemporary adaptations, and was warmly received by the audience, which included current students, alumni, and industry figures alongside friends and family of the performers, writers and directors.

Sam Johnson, Head of the School of Art, said on the event: ‘The range of work and the strength of written, directed and performed pieces was so impressive!

'There was a lovely atmosphere - and the students were clearly enjoying one another's success.'

The event also features annual prizes, with the 2019 Lowry Prize for Performance going to Jake Thompson for his self-written and performed A Mighty Fall from Grace.

The play, which follows the fortunes of Bradford Bulls rugby league club and one of its most ardent fans, will be performed next at the Bradford Fringe Festival in July.

The second prize of the evening went to Aminata Sow, who won this year’s Outstanding Student Award, for achievements with the Bolton Community via a number of applied projects with organisations including City of Sanctuary and ESSA Academy.

The showcase was also supported by second-year technical theatre students, who operated the sound and lighting, and worked as stagehands, at the event.
