What a career in Mechanical Engineering looks like

Deciding on a career path can seem like a tremendous task to begin with. After studying multiple subjects for years, you finally have an idea about what you enjoy learning and potentially a career to pursue. The next step is to look for a degree in the industry you want to head into.

In this blog, we will look at what careers you could embark on after graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree. There are multiple industries that mechanical engineers are needed in, including automotive, mechanical, construction, medicine, sport, and even consumer goods. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at just one of the possibilities available.

Career opportunities

As with many degrees, there are plenty of career paths to choose from after graduation. For mechanical engineers, one of the most esteemed careers is to work in the aeronautical sector and become an aerospace engineer.

There aren’t thousands of these job roles available, which means there is a lot of competition, but by equipping yourself with the right degree and mindset, anything is possible. Aerospace engineers help design, test and manufacture aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, and satellites.

Their day-to-day job role involves helping space exploration, improve defence systems, and working with the aviation sector to make air travel more accessible. No two days are the same; it’s an exciting and fast-paced environment, sure to never disappoint.

In the spotlight

Of course, some mechanical engineers have seen more success than others, and one to aspire to is Franklin Chang-Diaz. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Although his main endeavour is mechanical engineering, he is also a physicist and former NASA astronaut. In his career, he has been on seven space shuttle runs and featured in the Odyssey 2050 film.

If you’ve been inspired to start a fantastic career in the mechanical engineering sector, the first step you’ll need to take is by checking out the Mechanical Engineering degree options at the University of Bolton. For more information, click here.
