What can I do with a Law degree?

Many students get involved in Law because they’re passionate about making the world a better place, whether that be fighting for justice or supporting those falsely accused. The Law is complex as it extends to all corners of our society, but it is also a fascinating area of study.

Those who are thinking about studying Law may already be certain they want to become a Lawyer, but obtaining a Law degree opens many more doors which is why it’s vital you consider these potential future roles:

  • Barrister
  • Chartered Legal Executive
  • Conveyancer
  • Courtroom Usher
  • Judicial Assistant
  • Legal Cashier
  • Legal Secretary
  • Paralegal
  • Probate Practitioner
  • Researcher
  • Solicitor

Many Law graduates go on to other alternative careers in the finance, marketing and HR sectors. Fortunately, the skills obtained on a Law degree course are completely transferrable, for example, problem-solving, communication, analytical and self-management skills are something all employers are searching for.

Another option for a lot of Law graduates is to continue their studies. Around 30% of those who complete their Bachelor’s degrees go on to study a Master’s Law degree.

Gaining experience in these roles before graduation can be a great way to improve your employability. You can search online in solicitor’s firms to see if there are any Law placements or do a mini-pupillage which involves shadowing in a set of chambers. Marshalling is also an option to gain some experience; in these opportunities, you shadow a Judge.

At the University of Bolton, students can gain experience in the Law Advice Centre on campus. This facility is open to the public, whereby people are invited to seek legal advice from students who are guided by the course’s lecturers. This unique facility helps students build a rapport with local people but also helps them practise their skills in a working environment. For more information about the courses we offer, please contact on admissions department here.
