Amazing adventures for Sports Development and Coaching students

Students from Sports Development and Coaching spent two days at The Anderton Centre, helping to deliver programmes to other students and boosting their personal development skills.

Craig Hobbs, Senior Lecturer in Sport Development and Management and Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Sports Development & Coaching said “here they are able to develop skills which will help them stand out to an employer. Their self-confidence is raised, they learn resilience, emotional intelligence, leadership and teamwork.”

Around 30 students took part in team-building exercises in wet and windy weather, but all enjoyed the experience. Chris Horner, who is in the second year of his course, said: “I absolutely love it, the course is fantastic. This experience at The Anderton Centre really does help to build confidence and a variety of skills, especially around communication. I’m really impressed with the facilities here.”

Tom Halligan, Sports Centre Duty Officer and The Anderton Centre Liaison Officer at the university, said: “We really want to make the most of the facilities at the centre and offer different types of activities, outdoors in the fresh air, for our students to get involved in.”

‘Pay and Play’ sessions for students are to be launched later this month where students can learn different skills through activities.  It will be £3 a session which will include a return journey by minibus from 13:00-16:00, starting on 16 October.
