Interested in a career teaching others, with a trade that will help them flourish? At the University of Bolton, we know the importance of learning a skilled trade and how valuable sharing this knowledge can be on young people, both professionally and personally.

Our Cert Ed Certificate in Education 14+ is a nationally recognised teaching qualification that doesn’t require you to have any prior teaching experience. This course is available to anyone qualified and practicing in a trade such as hairdressing, bricklaying, joinery or plumbing, and is taught on the Salford College campus, using a combination of traditional study and work-based learning to help students learn the key theories and practicalities of teaching. Our students are guided through a supportive and professional environment, to ensure that they are prepared for a successful career in teaching.

Despite being one of the largest providers of teacher training for further and higher education in the UK, the University of Bolton ensures all class sizes are relatively small to enhance student learning.

Through a combination of traditional study and work-based learning, you’ll be able to explore the key theories and techniques of teaching, learning and assessment. We’ll support you as you discover how to apply them in practice, how you can mould them to the teaching of your trade and how they link into current research in education.
