Hannah Perry

I have been a registered nurse since 1994 having trained at the Royal Free Hospital in London. I started my nursing career in Neuromedicine and then moved to Trauma Intensive Care at the Royal London. From there I moved to the Regional Burns Unit in Essex to consolidate my trauma experience working with both adults and children in Intensive Care, rehabilitation and outpatients. We ran community programmes and I volunteered with the Burned Children's Club offering activities and holidays for children with a burn injury across the UK.

In a change of pace, I moved to work as a GP Practice Nurse and then into Tissue Donation for both the live and deceased programmes co-ordinated by the National Blood Service covering the East and South East of England. From here I wanted to develop my educational skills and went to work as a Clinical Educator for a Pain Management team covering both acute and community sectors and co-ordinating the neuromodulation programme. I then returned to donation working as a Specialist Nurse Organ Donation across East Anglia with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). I worked in the hospitals acute care areas, approaching families about organ donation and co-ordinating the process in order to facilitate donation. I remained with NHSBT but transferred to blood donation and worked with the quality and education teams and linked with the University of Cambridge research teams in running large scale clinical trials. I was also on the UK’s first Nursing Council which comprised of nurse representatives from all directorates working with corporate partners to increase the profile and influence of nursing in NHSBT.

Throughout this time I have completed various courses including my MSc in Medical and Healthcare education as I have a passion for education and see it as the driver for change. I am now working in a beautiful part of the world as part of the team bringing Nurse training back to North Devon.
