Mel Greenhalgh

Senior Lecturer in Psychology (CBP)

Mel Greenhalgh completed a first degree in forensic psychology, received from the University of Central Lancashire in 2003. She started her clinical career as a Graduate Primary Care Mental Health Worker in the NHS, completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Care Mental Health at the University of Central Lancashire in 2005 as part of the training for this role. She transferred to working in prisons across Lancashire as a Graduate Primary Care Mental Health Worker from 2006 and was promoted to the Primary Care Mental Health Co-ordinator role, providing leadership for graduate mental health workers working across three prisons in the locality.

Mel received an award of MSc in Advanced Practice Interventions in Mental Health (Primary Care) at the University of Manchester in 2008 with a particular emphasis on cognitive behavioural therapy interventions. In 2009, Mel began her training as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist at Greater Manchester NHS Trust, obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy in 2010, accredited by the University of Manchester.

Mel worked for the following eight years with Lancashire Care NHS Trust in IAPT services as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist for Central Lancashire and later as Clinical Lead for Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, a pan Lancashire role.

Mel is accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) both as an Accredited Psychotherapist and as an Accredited Clinical Supervisor.

Mel began her academic career at The Open University in 2008 with an appointment as Associate Lecturer for five years. In early 2017, Mel became Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer for the MSc/PGDip Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies courses at the University of Bolton.

Mel holds the role of External Examiner at Goldsmiths, University of London for CBT Programmes of Study.
