Tom Dickson

I completed a BA (Hons) Sports Coaching and Sports Development undergraduate degree (2011), followed by an MA Sport and Development (2013) whilst studying at Southampton Solent University. I then achieved Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2014) whilst lecturing at Southampton Solent University. I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher & Professional Education (2017) at the University of Bolton (with a Distinction profile) and achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2017). I am also a part-time PhD student with the University of Bolton, focusing on Football in the Community provision affecting social isolation and loneliness for older people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

I have seven full academic years of teaching/lecturing experience in Higher Education (October 2012 – present) across the aforementioned institutions, delivering on modules that focus on sport and community development, coaching, physical activity, academic skill development, and professional skill development.

Additionally, I have seven years of experience as a sports development practitioner working for organizations including a Local Authority, a County Sports Partnership, Further Education providers, and a Community Football Trust. Finally, I have 12 years of coaching experience working with the organizations detailed above, in addition to a County FA and various voluntary sector sports clubs. These industry experiences inform much of my teaching across various subject areas and levels.
