I am a Registered General Nurse with a District Nursing background and a keen interest in gerontology, palliative and end-of-life care. After graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies and a Master's Degree in Gerontology, I was employed as a Work-Based Educational Facilitator in 2002 to support the introduction of the Assistant Practitioner role in Health and Social Care at the university.
My current role is as a Work-Based Education Facilitator supporting independently funded students studying a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care. My responsibilities are to support the development of work-based learning, supporting mentors in practice and assisting the students to develop professional work-based portfolios. I complete practice visits auditing student workplaces for appropriateness of their chosen workplace in health or social care. I also provide pastoral support to all the independent students during their two-year course.
My research interests include the introduction of the Assistant Practitioner in Palliative and End-of-Life Care, and in GP practices across Greater Manchester.
