Senior staff from Sony Europe joined the Bolton Central team on Tuesday 14 November, to demonstrate Sony’s Vision Exchange collaboration system, with a view to its installation in the proposed collaboration suite for the Institute of Management. Sony Vision Exchange allows groups such as students, lecturers and presenters to come together, whether in the same room or even hundreds of miles away. Wireless content sharing and even video connections create a dynamic working environment, fostering creative discussion and knowledge exchange. Joining other Sony executives, Jacob Barfoed, Head of Regional Sales Northern Europe, from Sony Professional Solutions Europe, flew in from Copenhagen especially for the day. Jacob gave a fully-interactive demonstration of the system and explained the potential for Sony and Bolton to work together. In the afternoon Jacob toured the facilities of Bolton Central and the NCME, which showed how the University through Universal AV, have impressively embedded Sony technology into the new buildings as part of its future vision. The University of Bolton is only the second UK university to have worked with Sony on such a large scale: further potential to develop relations with the global technology supplier includes Sony’s use of Bolton Central and NCME as a higher education showcase, targeting universities across Europe. Following the presentation, Institute of Management staff are already considering how Sony’s Vision Exchange technology could benefit mainstream teaching, as well as provide an external income stream when not being used by the university. The event was organised by Universal AV with Sony Professional Europe, to show Sonys’ Vision Express collaboration product to the Institute of Management. The Audio Visual technology installed by Universal AV into the National Centre for Motorsport and the Institute of Management was showcased. The demo by Sony was attended by senior managers at the University and directors of Universal AV.
