What a career in Biomedical and Medical Engineering looks like

As with any degree, there are a variety of careers to embark upon after graduation. One option which is available to graduates is to become a Biomedical Engineer.

This type of role see’s the combination of two fascinating industries, engineering and medicine. Workers use their vast knowledge of the two sectors to design and create solutions to biological health issues and systems, including prosthetics and artificial organs.

This rewarding career will have you helping people across the world, as well as help other scientists with their biological research. Day-to-day jobs can include adapting or designing the medical software’s that hospitals use, managing teams, overseeing contractual obligations or even teaching other Biomedical Engineers through writing up fascinating research findings.

People in the spotlight

Forrest Bird was an American biomedical engineer, and although passed away in 2015, his work has had a long-lasting impact on the world, especially during the current coronavirus pandemic. He helped to create some of the first mass-produced mechanical ventilators which help people with chronic cardiopulmonary care.
