2019 Jenkinson Award

After extensive review and detailed assessment, the Jenkinson Panel, chaired by Professor Patrick McGhee, have announced the winners of the 2019 Jenkinson Awards. The criteria for the awards were: The extent to which the proposal supports the TIRI agenda and the University’s Research Strategy, that is: “improves the quality of research activities which support teaching”; The extent to which the proposal is likely to lead to outputs which will improve the University’s REF2021 performance.

Patrick McGhee said: “The quality of applications this year has been particularly high. The panel had a difficult time in arriving at a final list. I am particularly pleased to see several new members of staff and early career researchers amongst the winners”. A feature of the Jenkinson 2019 Awards is the first-ever awards for Law and for the Institute of Management. The Jenkinson celebration evening for all past and recent winners will be held on Thursday 13 December 2018.

The Awards are named after Augustus Jack Jenkinson (known as Jack) who was the first Principal of Bolton Institute of Technology, which opened in 1964. He remained Principal until 1970. He was previously Principal of Bolton Technical College, from 1951-64 and prior to that First Director of Bolton Training College, 1946 – 48.
