BA Fine Art Partners with the British Council on Venice Fellowships Programme

The School of the Arts is delighted to announce a partnership with the British Council on the 2019 Venice Fellowships Programme which forms part of the British Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

The University of Bolton School of the Arts will support two BA Fine Art students to spend a month in Venice, conducting independent research and mediating the exhibition, Cathy Wilkes, curated by Dr Zoe Whitley.

Abbie Detheridge and Natasha Mitchell from the second year BA Fine Art programme will be given an exclusive opportunity to spend a month in Venice during one of the world’s most significant art and architecture exhibitions organised by La Biennale di Venezia, which will run from 11 May – 24 November 2019. They will be stewarding and mediating the British Pavilion and undertaking independent research projects while in Venice.

The Venice Fellowships Programme offers our students the opportunity to become actively involved in La Biennale di Venezia and gain first-hand experience of the British Pavilion, this year’s curators and their vision. We have selected two of our most talented students to go to Venice to embark on a unique personal and creative experience. As partners in the Venice Fellowship Programme, we will showcase our Fellows’ research and creative responses on their return to university in the new academic year.

The Programme Leader for Art, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for our Fine Art students, to be working alongside some of the world’s leading practising artists, and to be trained by the British Council in curating the British Pavillion in Venice. It’s the chance of a lifetime, and both Abbie and Natasha are students who will make full use of this brilliant residency! I am very excited for them, and look forward to seeing the work that they have produced on their return.”
