Each year our final year students have an opportunity to work on the project that is more interesting to them or they would to expand their knowledge in that specific are in the field of biomedical engineering. Alumni biomedical students completed exciting dissertations looking at the forefront of technology in developing medical devices, diagnostic technics, innovative treatments, improving medical device safety and performance, patient’s health monitoring and much more.
For example, a novel and interesting project was carried out by using finite element analysis on developing a new intervertebral disc. This project was aimed to design a new structure for intervertebral disc which can mimic the property of human natural intervertebral disc. During this project the student had an opportunity to expand her knowledge on human anatomy particularly spinal column and advantage as well as challenges of using professional simulation software for modelling and analysing the idea that she developed during the project to address the existing issues with Artificial spinal disc. The student was very excited to have such opportunity on working on the real-life type of project. Her project was supported by Jenkinson award which is an internal funding available to the staff at university of Bolton to facilitate such studies which have direct impact on our society.
Such interesting projects in biomedical engineering help students to benefited from their skill they gained during the 3 years course and apply those skill in practice in order to build on their confidence on working in the similar filed in their future career.
