2020s demand for Accountancy skills

Accountancy is a profession that will always be in demand. From projects accountants to auditors, there is plenty of demand for those who graduate with an Accountancy degree.

Good Accountancy is key to any successful business, and therefore the job prospects for graduates are strong. But how can you develop your skill set to meet these demands?

This skill may come as a shock to some of you, you might be reading this thinking ‘I already have this skill’, but actually, it is one you can continuously work on and improve. With the potential of new legislature coming in due to Brexit, a critical thinking skill is going to be needed to navigate a new economic landscape. Make sure that with every problem you come across, you are exploring it to the full, evaluating it and then devising feasible and creative solutions.

Getting savvy with Cloud

Entreprenuer.com predicts that ‘Cloud accounting’ will be implemented into 90% of business by the end of 2020, meaning that if you are not already familiar with this technology, it’s time get the research in.

With instant and easy access, the Cloud is looking favourable to a host of companies. Becoming an accountant who can navigate the software is essential to maximise your employability.

Government law

We mentioned it earlier, but due to Brexit, accountants can expect a whole host of new laws to interfere with the day-to-day aspect of work. One of the most talked-about at the moment is the IR35 document, which involves tax law. If you’re an accountant, make sure you are aware of all new government legislation this year, so you’re not playing catch up by the time 2021 rolls around.

Accounting graduates are in particular demand, so equipping yourself with these skills will maximise your employability and have recruiters all over you with offers. It’s not just the abundance of job offers newly graduated accountants can enjoy; the average UK role pays £28,000 per annum. Think about how much more you can earn having mastered these skills.
