It’s no secret that children love to play, creating make-believe worlds, fantastical adventures, and invisible friends. However, play is not just light-hearted fun, but an essential factor to the cognitive, emotional and social wellbeing of children, as well as an important opportunity for parents to engage with their child.
While the speed of a modern-day lifestyle and changes in family structures has meant that parents often work long hours, the lack of playtime for children could have a detrimental effect.
The importance of play for a child’s development is of such significance that it has gained recognition by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights and is a right that should be available to every child.
Listening and learning to nursery rhymes is an effective way of helping to develop children’s memory skills, build early literacy skills, and learn to verbally communicate through the help of music and repetitive words and sounds.
Play is one of the best ways to prepare a child for the fundamentals of education. It is best done by allowing them to play out multiple scenarios, self-correct and learn basic literacy and mathematical skills. This is also true when allowing a child to be creative, play with materials and make things, has proven to encourage critical thinking and artistic expression.
Are you the type of personality that loves to mess around, come up with fun games, supporting and helping young people paint as well as getting your fingers covered in glue? Then the world of Early Years and Childhood Studies could be the perfect career for you, allowing you to give children their fundamental human right of quality playtime but you also get to blow off some steam with some well-deserved fun.
