Cloud Security Upskilling: Why 2021 is a Good Time to Study

Our MSc Cloud and Network Security course is a full-time, one-year programme designed to provide the advanced skills and knowledge needed for a career in computer management or cyber security. And there’s never been a more crucial time to upskill. Here are some of the reasons why computing graduates may want to consider cloud security upskilling at the University of Bolton.

There’s a big global skills gap
In order to close the cyber security skills gap worldwide, over four million professionals will need to be upskilled through additional training, according to data from (ISC)². That’s a workforce increase of 145% needed globally, making an IT security career one of the most in-demand for the future.

UK employers are on the hunt
According to research, most UK firms lack basic cyber security skills. This makes graduates in this field highly employable, with fantastic job opportunities to choose from when they leave university. And a GOV.UK report reveals that over 650,000 businesses (48%) in the UK are unable to carry out basic jobs defined in the Government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme. These include fundamental tasks such as setting up firewalls, storing data or removing malware. There has never been a better time to upskill if you want to increase your employability.

Cloud adoption calls for more cloud security
The global cloud market, which stood at £62 billion in 2016, is set to be worth four times as much by 2030. With increased adoption of cloud and the growing number of devices, comes added risks as network attack surfaces widen. Cloud and network security workers are already in demand in 2020, and the trend shows no sign of slowing down.

Get access to vendor qualifications
Right now, we are able to give students access to vendor qualifications with Cisco and RedHat on our MSc Cloud and Network Security programme, due to our special affiliation with the RedHat Academy. We are also able to offer free or significantly reduced software through the aforementioned educational partners, plus others such as Fedora, Adobe and Microsoft.

Additionally, the University of Bolton ranks in the Top 5 in the UK for Teaching Quality in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020, as well as the Top 50 UK Universities in The Guardian University League Tables 2021. Students have also ranked us in the Top 10 for Student Satisfaction in Computer Science Courses in the Complete University Guide 2021, so there’s nowhere better to begin your upskilling journey.
