Keeping fit is essential for a healthy, active life, but it takes considerable motivation to engage in exercise regimes regularly. How can we get everybody moving?
Launched at the turn of the century, Zumba had instant appeal. Upbeat global rhythms provided the backing track to choreographed dance routines and classes were fun. With high and low impact options, Zumba was accessible to children and adults of all abilities.
Teams of instructors signed up to become certified Zumba teachers; they enjoyed the classes as much as the participants! It also proved lucrative, as attendance numbers rose every week. Word spread about this pleasurable way to get fit; it was more like a night out with friends than exercise.
Zumba classes now take place in 180 countries across the world. There are mothers in Australia dancing to Salsa rhythms, European teenagers strutting their stuff to African beats and Bollywood music playing to women-only classes in Saudi Arabia. For some, gaining confidence in local Zumba class has led to the pursuit of a career in dance.
Dance is a powerful form of expression. From classically trained ballet dancers to street dance groups like Diversity, there is a style to captivate and inspire everyone. You may love the freedom and joy of dancing, but are you driven to make a career in dance?
The University of Bolton works in partnership with Shockout Arts to deliver a Professional and Commerical Dance degree. This course develops professional standard dance techniques, alongside choreography, musical theatre and self-promotion. Our graduates from Shockout Arts have gone to work on the XFactor, Disney movies, the Brit Awards and with various artists on UK and European tours.
The world of professional dance is demanding and highly competitive. Beyond the studio, students take part in dance competitions, perform at events and volunteer. These activities build confidence, experience and can open up career opportunities. If dance flows through your veins, we welcome your application.
