The University of Bolton’s partnership with Backstage Academy

The University of Bolton feels strongly that all students should have the chance to graduate and go straight into a career with the right skill set and knowledge. This means giving the students industry-standard equipment and opportunities to experience the workplace.

The University of Bolton has been in partnership with the Backstage Academy for nine years, providing courses such as Live Events Production, Stage and Production Management, and Live Visual Design and Production.

This partnership allows students to learn in Production Park, Europe’s largest purpose-built rehearsal arena complex, where acts such as Jay Z and Lady Gaga have performed. Production Park contains more than 20 live events businesses and houses multiple studio spaces, facilities include:

Studio 001 - A rehearsal facility with 128-tonne roof capacity, on-site hotel, cinema, green room, en-suite dressing rooms, catering and production offices

  • Soundbox - A medium-sized rehearsal space used for studying live sound engineering
  • Pre-Vis - A cutting-edge pre-visualisation suite
  • Talkbox - A 100-seat lecture theatre plus, media rooms and computer suites
  • Backstage Studios - A practical learning facility

Using the best-in-class technology and equipment in a state-of-the-art studio space allows students to work side-by-side with leading professionals across the campus.

Alongside the production equipment students will explore and use at the Backstage Academy, they also have access to the University of Bolton’s facilities, including e-learning resources and an extensive e-library.

The courses at the Backstage Academy focus on preparing students for life after graduation, which is why many graduates have gone on to enjoy employment at Glastonbury, on the Mumford & Sons tour, Leeds Festival, the Winter Olympics and more.

By studying Live Events courses at the University of Bolton, students have the opportunity to embark on a career that continually has them pinching themselves, checking that it’s all real.

If you are interested in a Live Events career, you can find more information at the Backstage Academy website here.
