What a career in Early Years and Childhood Studies looks like

Deciding on a career path can seem like a tremendous task to begin with. After studying multiple subjects for years, you finally have an idea about what you enjoy learning and potentially a career to pursue. The next step is to look for a degree in the industry you want to head into.

In this blog, we will look at some of the incredible careers you can have working with children. Options include working in schools and nurseries, as teaching assistants, nursery practitioners, or even a family support worker. Many people go onto study a PGCE or a master’s degree after graduation, enhancing their existing skill set.

Career options

Working with children is an incredibly rewarding career. Every day you head out to work you will be making a lasting impact on a young person’s life, whether that helps them overcome any fears, teaching them new skills or even opening their eyes to new things.

A popular option for those who wish to excel in this field is to become an early year’s teacher. Being the bridge between nursery and primary school can be exciting, as children start to develop a passion for learning, and you introduce them to the ‘rules’ of school such as raising hands to speak, asking to go to the bathroom and a structure of hourly lessons.

Day-to-day, you will be working with the same children, helping them progress throughout the schooling year, and then afterwards, see them journey on into primary school. Each year there is a new class to teach these vital lessons to, with the same rewarding feeling at the end.

If you’ve been inspired to become an early years teacher or have a passion for working in the Early Years and Childhood Studies industry, you can find out more information about the fantastic courses on offer at the University of Bolton, here.
