What a career in Health and Social Care looks like

Deciding on a career path can seem like a tremendous task to begin with. After studying multiple subjects for years, you finally have an idea about what you enjoy learning and potentially a career to pursue. The next step is to look for a degree in the industry you want to head into.

In this blog, you will gain a little more insight into the incredible work that is involved in the Health and Social Care industry. The sector is rather broad, and there are plenty of job opportunities after graduation as the demand on the health system increases year on year. The selfless and heroic work of this sector help keep the nation moving forward to a healthier and brighter future.

Potential careers

If you’re considering a career in Health and Social Care, then you’re more than likely aware of the incredible work they do. This type of job is highly respected in society and for a good reason, selfless acts, caring for other people and ready to help at a moment’s notice. One exciting role that you can embark upon with this type of degree is an occupational therapist.

Occupational therapy can cover a wide range of topics but usually consists of helping the ill, injured or disabled with a physical condition. It could be temporary or long-lasting. The occupational therapist utilises their skills and knowledge to help make life easier for the patient by helping them with their exercises and routines prescribed by physiotherapists and doctors.

A regular day as an occupational therapist could have you see multiple patients throughout a day, all with a variety of different needs. No two days are the same, but you may see the same patients on a weekly or monthly basis, so you do get to build professional relationships with patients, unlike some careers.

In the spotlight

Bill Wong is an occupational therapist who began his life in Hong Kong. After being diagnosed with Autism, Wong knew he wanted to make a difference in the world, and he has done. His spectrum diagnosis meant many others on the spectrum flocked to seek his help, as they felt he understood more than others. His success now sees him in California with people visiting from across the country to seek his help, demonstrating that if your passion is helping people, nothing can hold you back.

If you’re inspired by Bill Wong’s incredible work or those in your local area who have perhaps looked after your loved ones and friends in recent years, then a career in Health and Social Care is a great option.
