Potential careers

It is well known that nurses are considered one of the most honourable professions. Not only do they work hard to see a high number of patients each day, but they do it with empathy and when required, sympathy. There is one area of nursing which has seen a steep rise in popularity for career choices, and that is mental health.

As mental health patient numbers have soared in recent years, there has been more demand for nurses to assist. One in four people suffers from some form of mental health issue, from depression and anxiety to bipolar and eating disorders. There is a wide range of symptoms, causes, and ways to help reduce the conditions, and it is a mental health nurse’s job to support patients in managing their conditions.

In the spotlight

Many people embark on these heroic careers, caring for others, and one of them was none other than British acting legend Dame Julie Walters. In her younger years, she worked as a nurse in a Birmingham Hospital. Her career took a turn towards acting when the urge to act became too strong, and she landed her first role in 1975. Although the famed actress has seen massive success in her career, she often talks fondly about her time as a nurse.
