For those who enjoy the written word in all its beautiful forms, the obvious degree choice is English and Creative Writing. While most will carry the dream of writing a novel and becoming the next J. K. Rowling, there are plenty of other careers on offer to those who aren’t interested in literary fame.
You might be someone who loves to read over and over again, someone who admires funny puns and slogans, or you love to tell a story. There are many careers to be had from an English and Creative Writing degree; here are a few:
The beauty of studying this type of degree is that there are many careers to choose from after graduation. You could work in an agency on multiple brands or in the media, of course, all the while keeping your unfinished novel idea in your top draw.
An excellent reason for studying this type of degree is that you can tailor it to the kind of writing you enjoy. You might love writing puns, in which case advertising is a great route to take; perhaps you love writing about hard-hitting facts, in which case journalism is a good choice; or you might even prefer writing instructional content and communications which suits the marketing industry.
Getting an English or Creative Writing degree will give you many transferrable skills, including independent working, writing to time-sensitive deadlines, researching topics, sharp attention-to-detail and persuasive language which is an excellent skill for pitching and presenting ideas.
