A hi-tech classroom which brings huge benefits to student learning has been officially opened at the University of Bolton’s Institute of Management. The Sony Collaboration Suite in the building in Newport Street has created a unique learning environment. This 21st century classroom incorporates the latest technology in large screens as part of the work stations. Sony has donated some of the equipment and on-going support as part of a collaboration with the university, which will see them supply guest lectures and work placements. Eamonn Halligan, UK and Ireland Sales Manager for Sony Professional Solutions, said: “This is a really impressive suite and the benefits for students are immense. Our partnership with the University of Bolton is exceptional.” The room incorporates Sony’s vision exchange system and Ubicast’s lecture capture system. Seminars can be recorded, which enables lecturers and students to review specific areas afterwards. Students can also remotely dial in via video and interact with those in the room. Universal AV Services was employed to design the suite and make it as user-friendly as possible. External Business Manager Richard Kent said: “The aim was to make it a truly two-way learning space, where all the students can take part and feel like they are engaged.” Kondal Reddy Kandadi, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Bolton, who was joined at the event by the Director of the Institute of Management, Bill Dawson, said: “This state-of-the-art technology will dramatically enhance the student learning experience. “The suite is also available for local businesses and organisations to use. We want to work in partnership with the business community to help increase our students’ employability.” After the opening ceremony, Sony UK hosted a ‘customer day’ in the Institute of Management and guests visited from Universities in Ireland and the UK.
