Keyworkers across the country are fighting hard to keep those suffering from coronavirus safe, but many of those working on the front line aren’t in hospitals. For most of the country, there is only a small portion of people who are working in intensive care units looking after those who are the sickest.

Across the country, there are thousands of people giving care to those who are not in hospitals. For most, it is business as usual as their workplaces look and act the same. Their work is just as vital as doctors and nurses in hospitals, so let us take a look at the lesser-known heroes of the nation.

Care Homes

As most of us are aware, people over the age of 70 are more vulnerable to this virus, primarily because their immune systems aren’t quite as strong as they were, and most are likely to have some medical issues already.

In care homes, the elderly are being looked after by carers. These keyworkers are dedicated to helping those whose family struggle to support them, whether that be financially, medically, or just having enough time. It’s is a tremendously rewarding role filled with incredible morale and teamwork. Care workers are heading into these homes and looking after those who are most vulnerable.

Children’s Homes

Thousands of children across the country are in homes, waiting to be adopted or fostered by a loving family. Right now, they remain in their respective children’s homes until the pandemic is over. It can be challenging to look after children during the lockdown, as many parents will know, but for workers who are in and out of the building, the restrictions bring even more complications.

These key workers work long shifts which stretch over a few days at a time. Although these long hours are nothing new for these workers, they are faced with the challenge of home-schooling. Not that these challenges phase the heroic workers.

Hospices

End of life care requires the most dedicated and compassionate workers. Fortunately, our country is filled with these selfless people who are continuing to provide incredible care during such unprecedented times.
