More awards for Bolton students

The University of Bolton media students is celebrating after winning a top Royal Television Society Award.

The short film A Question of Dignity by 2018 alumni Mark Scullion, partly co-directed by Nicolay Armando and produced by another alumna from last year, Sharleigh Wood, was named Best Factual in the RTS North West Awards on Tuesday evening (Feb 26). The film explores the impact of Alzheimer’s on ‘Right to Die with Dignity’ campaigner Alex Pandolfo. Nicolay co-directed parts of the film with Mark, whilst working on his own film On Target which Mark also co-produced and was also been shortlisted in the ‘Factual’ category. Nicolay joined the University of Bolton as an overseas student. Sharleigh was nominated for an RTS NW Award last year for her short drama Small Things. She is currently on placement as a trainer teacher with the media department.

Finally, the university’s RTS NW nominations also featured 2017 Alumna, Kathryn Berry. She worked on the University of Salford’s Living Beyond Hope. Sam Johnson, head of the University of Bolton’s School of the Arts, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates how talented our students at the University of Bolton are. We are very proud just to have had films nominated and to win is really the icing on the cake." The awards evening took place in the Compass Room at the Lowry Theatre, Salford.
