Elliot is a final year student who is about to graduate the BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology degree course within the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering at University of Bolton.
He has written about the student visits he has experienced this year. The University of Bolton has provided several unique and valuable opportunities to engage with key industry leaders.
This insight and understanding has been great as we have been able to tailor our studies and goals around what industry requires. Some of the experiences provided include factory tours and masterclasses given by organisations such as M-Sport, Ginetta and RML from Motorsport divisions, as well as broader engineering fields such as companies in manufacturing and aerospace which the university is closely connected with.
During a factory visit to M-Sport, we were able to speak to people in every department about their career paths, and how they used their university degrees as well as work experience to get into the jobs they have now.
We were given the advice that most companies are looking for engineers who have a lot of field experience in addition to their studies.
This was really useful to discover as it made us more driven to take up the opportunities we get offered at university.
During the three years, I have been at The University of Bolton, it has been inspiring to hear and see the department growing its network within the industry, as it means that students and postgraduates have the real possibility of finding internships and placement opportunities at places like M-Sport.
We also often carry out projects for external companies whilst utilising the knowledge and facilities at NCME which can lead to job offers after students graduate.
