NCME Work Placement: Speedworks Motorsport

Blending into a new team is always nerve-racking, especially when competing at the level of BTCC. Speedworks Motorsport has helped make this introduction into a highly-competitive environment an enjoyable one for me. The team has been consistently on the cusp of winning the championship over the past couple of years, so they are one of the leading teams in the sport.

This has added pressure to myself with the expectations of entering such a team, and with only a single year in rallycross under my belt, I had and still have a huge mountain to climb.

Even so, this has been one of the best learning experiences I’ve had so far, and I will certainly develop more throughout the season.

The work being done with the team is split between workshop roles and trackside roles.

Currently, I am finding my place at trackside, but I am getting into the rhythm of how the race weekends pan out and making the most of each round. At the workshop I help with the strip-down and re-prep of the car, ensuring that we have a reliable and presentable car at each race weekend.

The opportunity I have here is one which I am exceedingly grateful for, as both the team and the university have helped make this an enjoyable and worthwhile time.
