A university of Bolton student has been selected for the English Universities’ Football Squad. Joel Amado, aged 20, will take part in the Home Nations tournament when England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will compete in Cardiff in April. Joel, who is studying for a sports rehabilitation degree, said he was “really pleased” to be selected.
He was born in Portugal, moved to the UK when he was nine and now lives in Salford. He said: “It is a big opportunity to be able to play for English universities – I am really looking forward to it.” Joel, who plays left back, has turned out for a number of Greater Manchester football teams, most recently for Trafford FC. Mollie Percival, part-time sports, health and physical activity officer at the University of Bolton, said: “This is only the university sports centre’s second year of running the Club Sports programme, so it is great news that one of our Students Club Sports players has been selected for the English Universities Squad. “Joel has been a valued player this year and we wish him every success with the English Universities Squad and fixtures.”
If you have been inspired by Joel’s story, the University Club Sports is always looking for new players. Scheduled university Club Sports for 2019-20 include Men’s Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey and Rugby Union and Women’s Netball, Hockey and Rugby Union. Look out for session information at the start of the academic year, or email to clubsports@bolton.ac.uk to get involved.
