Who Am I? A Back Story
Beth Sykes joined us through clearing. She says, “coming to the University of Bolton to study was the best thing that has happened to me!”

On the morning of her A-Level results, Beth didn’t get the grades she expected. Naturally, she was very upset, not able to attend her chosen university or course.

That’s where the University of Bolton came in.

Beth reached out to us and we offered her an individual tour of the campus and accommodation and chatted to her at length about her options. Beth went into September feeling so much more confident, with a place confirmed at the University of Bolton.

How Did She Get On?
In her own words, Beth “made friends for life, learnt the building blocks for her career as a Sports Rehabilitator and now has a full-time job.”

Beth had nothing but good things to say about her four years of study at the University of Bolton.

Beth said, “I received fantastic academic and personal support. My lecturers provided great knowledge and insight into my chosen degree and provided a range of different learning techniques such as lectures, seminars, practical workshops and real-life experiences. They were also very approachable, understanding and supportive during the times I went to them having personal and confidence problems.”

How Did She Feel At The End?
Beth graduated with a full, positive university experience.

She gained over 600 hours of work experience. This ranged from working on events like Bolton Iron Man, 5/10km running events to martial arts championships across the town.

Speaking about her tutors in particular, Beth said, “The staff know you by name and say hello as they pass. You are known as an individual and not a number.”

Even though we were not her plan A, we made Beth one of our own and now, she’s one of our proud alumni.
