Free Legal Advice Centre Re-opens After Winter Break

The free Legal Advice Centre provided by the students at the University of Bolton is set to re-open in Bolton town centre on Friday 7 February, bigger and better than ever.

After receiving a huge influx of requests for legal advice from the public, on matters such as tax, family, employment, property, criminal and immigration. The centre will re-open its doors, continuing to help the Bolton community.

The initial team of 14 third-year students is expanding to include 46 second-year students in the centre. All students are under the care and direction of Ian Bowden who is a qualified Solicitor Advocate and lecturer of Law, and Zaman Kala, a lecturer at the University of Bolton’s School of Law.

Bowden said: “From the outset, the University has been working in partnership with legal professionals through the Bolton Law Society and with charities and specialist advisory services to ensure that every enquiry can be appropriately dealt with, either through the centre team or through our external partners.

Members of the public can be assured that our team are trained in the wide range of skills required of a legal professional, and are supported by the University and our partners every step of the way.”

Opening times every Friday will now include morning appointments from 9:30am-12:30pm as well as afternoon sessions from 1:30pm-4:30pm, with drop-in sessions from 2:00pm-5:00pm.

“People often need legal advice but don’t know where to turn. The centre gives them an option and it’s clear it has quickly become a valued service to the local community” said Bowden.
