A degree in English is the study into how the world is represented and interpreted through the literary gaze. Through acts of reading, writing, analysing and critiquing, we encourage students to take a more critical and creative look at how we use the English language to communicate ideas.
Our BA (Hons) Course in English places its central focus on deepening students understanding of the relationship of literature to society, looking at works that shocked, amazed and changed history, from previous centuries to the modern-day.
Whilst we know the importance of written and critical abilities, we also provide a supportive and encouraging environment to help nurture your oral abilities, providing students with the best possible grounding from which to share their ideas with the world. These skills are highly valued by a range of employers, which also contribute to students abilities in presenting information, forming cohesive arguments and persuasion, cultural awareness and research skills.
Our teaching staff are comprised of award-winning scholars and writers, who strive to meet every students individual learning needs. Actively researching in three core areas of literature, our tutors are constantly channeling their knowledge and discoveries of poetry, prose and drama into the curriculum.
