Pro-Vice Chancellor Baroness Helen Newlove congratulated a team of successful young Prince’s Trust volunteers at a special event held at the University of Bolton.
Baroness Newlove told the eight young people: “I am honoured to stand here and present you with your awards, you have done amazingly well.”
During the 12-week personal development programme, Faisal Alqarni, Shafe Mohamed, Skye Nicholson, Naeemah Patel, Stuart Preston, Saarah Rawat and twins Nikita and Harley Bent took part in a variety of projects. These included a residential team building course in the Lake District and work placements with a variety of groups and businesses, including Men in Sheds, Bolton FM, the Premier Inn and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. The young people also visited Bolton Dementia Support Team and sat with some care home residents, talking and listening to them about their lives.
Malcolm Heywood, Prince’s Trust Team Manager, said: “I know first-hand what a positive difference this Prince’s Trust programme makes to young people and we are all very proud of Team 51.”
All of the young people gave a short speech to the audience, which included proud family members and friends. Skye, who said she had suffered anxiety issues for some time, conquered her fears and took to the stage to talk to the audience. She told them: “This course has been such a positive experience for me.”
Baroness Newlove presented the team with their awards and added: “This is just the start of your journey, now you can go away and do anything you want with your life.
