Brennan Tighe

Associate Teaching Professor

There are a number of sides to Brennan's academic interests.

On the one hand, Brennan is a passionate teacher focusing on delivering industry-ready computing and networking graduates within the computing subject group. On the other hand, Brennan is passionate about the support, development and practice of teaching and learning. Part of his engagement with the School of Education and Psychology has seen him progress to Associate Teaching Professor within the Faculty of Engineering and Creative Technologies. Since being appointed as an Associate Professor in 2016, Brennan has demonstrated nothing but passion and commitment to developing outstanding student learning experiences through the enhancement of the University of Bolton’s teaching and pedagogical approaches.

Brennan is responsible for the design and implementation of a number of modules within the area of open source technologies including the Linux operating system and Python programming language. He ensures that undergraduates are working on live industry projects through their engagement in areas surrounding software project management, project development and ultimately the delivery of industry class solutions. Additionally, Brennan has a number of vendor qualifications from RedHat Linux and the Linux Professional Institute.

In addition to Brennan’s first-class BSc (Hons) in Internet, Networks and Communications, he has a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning, as well as studying and researching on the Masters Teaching and Learning programme. Brennan is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is an institutional assessor for Higher Education Academy fellowships as well as a mentor for fellow academics in obtaining their fellowship. Brennan’s success rate of obtaining fellowship status at the first attempt remains at 100%.

For Brennan, the sole purpose of higher education is not just about the teaching and learning, it is about transformation and how he can transform individuals lives by empowering people to fulfil their life ambitions by embracing education. Brennan's passion for his technical subjects and his understanding of pedagogical approaches and implementation of teaching practice is entirely focused on the transformation that education can have on individuals and the lives of their families.

There are examples of, literally outstanding and gold standards of teaching practice within Brennan's practice. As such, Brennan shares his pedagogical approaches within schools, across faculties and beyond the campus to partner organisations to encourage outstanding teaching performance.
