Clive Robinson

Clive is currently programme leader for the undergraduate construction courses at the University of Bolton. His main role is to maintain high standards of delivery on the current undergraduate programmes while also designing new programmes for the future, such as the proposed BSc (Hons) Digital Construction and Surveying programme.

Prior to entering academia, Clive worked in the construction industry for fifteen years at various craft and managerial levels developing an in-depth knowledge of construction. He also has twenty-five years’ experience working in further and higher education. He holds numerous academic qualifications, including BSc (Hons) Building Surveying and Conservation and MSc Historic Built Environment. He is also a member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and an Incorporated Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Clive teaches a broad range of topics on the undergraduate programmes in construction and civil engineering, including construction technology, science and materials, construction management, historic building conservation, building surveying and measurement, and supports the interdisciplinary project module. He is also the module leader and supervisor for the undergraduate dissertation. At postgraduate level, he delivers modules on sustainable construction and construction management for the MSc Construction Project Management degree.

Clive’s main area of academic interest and passion relates to the conservation and sustainability of the built environment and adaptation of historic buildings in relation to change of use. Between 2014 and 2018, he was chairman of the Watling Gate Restoration Group, preserving this Grade II listed building in Trafford. He worked with Trafford Council to secure a £10,000 Heritage lottery grant for the future feasibility and change of use of the building.

Clive has worked on validation panels for Bradford University for undergraduate degree programmes in Heritage and Conservation. He was also an External Examiner at Southampton Solent University from 2014 to 2018. He is currently an External Examiner for an undergraduate programme at Greenwich University.
