Dr Clare Higgins

Senior Lecturer

Before university, I took a gap year in Austria working for a charity in a residential centre for children, young people and adults with sensory impairment, profound and multiple learning difficulties, and profound communication difficulties. This experience informed my choice of degree.

After graduating from the University of York with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, I worked for a young person charity in London and then taught English in Italy. Upon my return, I worked in HR, Training and development for 12 years in London and then Manchester. I graduated MCIPD and achieved FCIPD status. For my MA in HRM from Manchester Business School, I researched the effect of Work Flow and Image technology on management development. This research focused on the analysis of personality, team development and change management in addition to management style. I carried out my research during this time as I was HR and Management Development Manager for Friends Provident in Manchester.

I left the business world to complete a PGCE in Primary Education at Liverpool Hope University. I then taught Primary for ten years before starting my Doctorate in Education and lecturing on the BA Education and Teacher Education PGCE at Stockport College of FE and HE, before working here at the University of Bolton.
