Professor Ebdon obtained a BSc in Chemistry (Class 1) from the University of Birmingham in 1965, and a PhD in polymer chemistry from the same institution in 1968. He then joined the staff at the University of Lancaster, first as a Research Associate then subsequently as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor of Polymer Chemistry. In 2000, Professor Ebdon joined the staff of the University of Sheffield, where he held a Chair of Chemistry and was the founding Director of Sheffield’s Polymer Centre. He retains an Emeritus post at the University of Sheffield, where he still carries out occasional teaching. Professor Ebdon has been Chairman of the RSC Macromolecular Chemistry Group, and of the RSC Lancaster and District Section, and has served on the Committee of the European Polymer Federation and on various national and international research and conference committees.
