Sally Preece

Lecturer - English for Academic Purposes

Sally has worked at the University of Bolton for five years. She is currently module leader for three academic and language skills modules taught as part of health, business and law foundation programmes, which are designed to support the language needs of students who speak English as a second language.

Her research interests include English for specific academic purposes and English as an academic lingua franca. She is currently working towards completion of her doctoral thesis which concerns assessor attitudes towards the use of non-standard variations of academic English in engineering masters’ theses.

EXPERIENCE
During her time at the university, she has taught on numerous programmes including the English Pre-Sessional, the International Foundation Programmes and on language modules for foundation programmes including law, health and business. She also has experience of teaching in China, including teacher training.

Before her time at the university, she worked for several years as a Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

RESEARCH, SCHOLARLY AND OTHER ACTIVITY
Sally has recently completed her R2 assessment as part of her Education Doctorate which examines attitudes towards the use of non-standard variations of academic English in engineering masters’ theses.
