Stephen qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1970 and was made a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1979.
He then took a position working for Deloitte in Australia and worked as a Chartered Accountant in that country for two years. Stephen returned to the UK and was made a Partner with Harry L Price and subsequently Ernst & Whinney.
Stephen qualified as an Insolvency Practitioner in 1988 and was made a Fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3).
In 1989 Stephen set up his own company specialising in Corporate Rescue and Recovery, which in 2002 he merged with the Begbies Traynor Group. He currently works at CG & Co based in Manchester. Stephen is a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of Manchester City Art Galleries Trust. His hobbies and interests include films, live theatre, thrillers, any live sport and he regularly plays badminton.
Stephen is married to Edith and they have two children and two grandchildren.
