Ready to play? - Games Design, Games Art and Games Programming

Do you want to be part of one of the most innovative entertainment industries in the world? Maybe you love computers, games or animation and want to turn this passion into a career? Then look no further and check out our range of games degrees at the University of Bolton.

Three great courses

We offer three fantastic Undergraduate games degrees and each has a particular focus in the world of games development.

BA (Hons) Games Art

This games degree focuses on developing your skills in 3D modelling, textures and lighting in order to create digital content for games. You will learn the theories and concepts in games art and put them into practice.

On this course you will be learning in a practical way, completing various projects with your peers and other pathways to provide a strong foundation in games development.

BSc (Hons) Games Design

Next on our list is the BSc (Hons) Games Design degree which allows you to study games development from a technical and design perspective, as opposed to purely art or programming.

You will be encouraged to develop an understanding of games production and business practices, with modules covering content production, level design, and sales and marketing. Each student will work on group practical projects that will form part of their portfolio.

BSc (Hons) Games Programming

Our third degree in games development is the BSc (Hons) Games Programming, which focuses on technical skills and utilising maths and physics in game creation.

Your expert lecturers will help you become proficient in C++ programming and gain a broad knowledge of games programming, design and development. Each student will have the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence and its role in games.

The University of Bolton

You will be studying at a university which has been voted No.1 for Student Satisfaction in the North West for the past three years (Complete University Guide 2021, 2020 and 2019).

We have invested in a state-of-the-art games studio, purpose-built computer suites for our students on all of the games degrees. You will be guided by academics who are experts in their fields and have the opportunity to work with industry partners on beta testing, attend guest lectures and work on real-world projects.

For added support, we offer a range of scholarships and bursaries including up to £1,000 for all full-time Undergraduates who have at least 128 UCAS Points. Please visit our website for more information.

Career prospects

The University of Bolton was one of the first to offer games degrees and since then, our graduates have gone on to work for AAA-rated games developers, set up their own games studios and worked in design and animation.

All games graduates will leave with the personal and professional skills that a games studio expects, including communication, project management and leadership.
