One of our BSc(Hons) Mechatronics Top-Up graduate has been offered to join the “Fire Materials Research” team in the University of Bolton to continue as a PhD student.
He will work on the research project ‘Lignin Based Carbon Fibres for Composites’ (LIBRE) with other researchers under the supervision by Professor Baljinder Kandola, a world-famous research leader in Materials Fire Science.
In 2016, Professor Kandola was awarded research funding from Horizon 2020, which is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020).
The main aim of the LIBRE project is to produce carbon fibres from lignin-based products for use in carbon fibre-reinforced structural composites.
Mr Annan Xiang from Hubei University, China came to study BSc(Hons) Mechatronics Top-up course at University of Bolton. Since he is from Materials background, he chose his final year project with Professor Kandola and worked on LIBRE project.
He performed well and produced a good piece of work. Professor Kandola invited him to continue working on the project and offered him a PhD studentship.
Mr Xiang is extremely happy to have this research opportunity and stated that he very much appreciates working in this esteemed research team.
