Progression To University Fund 2017/18

The P2U fund aims to provide financial support to students from Bolton College who apply to, and are accepted on degree programmes offered by the University of Bolton. The fund is open to applications from students who expect to successfully complete an appropriate Level 3 programme (e.g. BTEC Extended Diploma or Level 3 Access Award) at the College in the summer of 2017, which would allow them to progress to University.

Amount

Up to three individual cash bursaries of £2000 per annum will be paid to successful students for the duration of their degree up to a maximum period of three years.

How to Apply

Students will need to apply for the course via UCAS to the University of Bolton by UCAS by 15 January 2017.

Students should complete the application form below and submit it to Lesley Groom, H.E. Coordinator at Bolton College, lesley.groom@boltoncc.ac.uk by 1 March 2017, and also make the University of Bolton their first choice via UCAS by that date. The application will include a statement of approximately 500 words outlining career ambitions, including examples of extra-curricular activities, and how they plan to make maximum advantage of their degree.

Applications for support from the fund will be assessed initially by Bolton College. Successful applicants at this stage will then be invited to a final interview in March- April by a panel comprising representatives from the University and from the College. Decisions will be made by 15 May 2017 and successful applicants will be notified immediately afterwards.

Eligibility

Students must be charged tuition fees of £9,000 per academic year. Fees must be paid via tuition fee loan or students must be self-funded.Their course at Bolton College must have commenced in September 2015 or later. Bursaries from the P2U fund will be awarded to selected full-time students who satisfy the following criteria:

They have successfully completed, at the requisite grade, a full level 3 course at Bolton College in one of the following subject areas:

  1. Business
  2. IT
  3. Civil Engineering and Construction
  4. Engineering
  5. Sport
  6. Public Services
  7. Health & Social Care

They are proceeding to a degree programme at the University of Bolton in the following disciplines:

  • Business, Accountancy and Law
  • Computing, Games Programming, Games Design and Games Art
  • Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology,  Construction and Quantity Surveying
  • Engineering (all variants)
  • Sport Development and Coaching, Sport & Exercise Science
  • Health & Social Care

They must be permanently resident in the North West

They should have achieved a grade/mark profile at merit level (or equivalent), or above in their level 3 studies

They should gain a supporting statement from a current tutor and, if appropriate, an  employer, highlighting and demonstrating the applicants’ commitment to their studies, i.e. excellent attendance, meeting deadlines, outstanding progress and/or any other criteria that demonstrate the applicants’ approach and attitude to their studies in spite of any challenging personal circumstances that they have experienced.

There will be a maximum of three awards of £2000 in each year, which will be payable to successful applicants for a maximum period of three years over the course of a standard three year degree programme. Payments in years two and three will be subject to students passing all modules in the preceding semester, receiving a satisfactory reference from their Personal Tutor and complying with the terms of the award detailed below.

Each successful applicant will undertake to represent the University and the College as a representative while they are in receipt of an award, at events such as Open Days etc.

Payments

Payments of £1000 will be made by credit transfer after the end of Teaching Week 4 in each of the first and second semesters of each University Academic Year. Payments in each Academic Year after Year 1 will be dependent on the student passing all modules in the preceding semester, receiving a satisfactory reference from their Personal Tutor, and fulfilling their representative duties to the satisfaction of the University and of the College.

Payments will cease immediately if the student withdraws or interrupts their studies.

Terms and Conditions

Any queries should be raised with the Bolton College HE Coordinator on 01204 482300. All applications will initially be assessed by the HE Coordinator – to ensure students have completed all sections of the application form and to ensure students meet all criteria. The final decision-making panel will be administered by the University of Bolton.

Awards will be made to a maximum of three successful applicants each year. Each applicant, after satisfying all conditions (if any) of the University of Bolton’s offer of a place on an undergraduate HE programme of study, will receive an award of £2000 per year, for a maximum period of three years, to allow them to complete a standard three year degree programme. Payments in years two and three will be subject to the student passing all modules in the preceding semester, receiving a satisfactory reference from their Personal Tutor, and complying with the terms of the award.

The P2U Bursary can be received along with other awards from the University which the student may be eligible for, including other University Scholarships or Hardship Fund awards

Please note that all figures quoted for the 2017/18 awards are subject to confirmation.

The award will be paid for first, not subsequent, nor equivalent, nor lower level HE courses only. If you have previously commenced on any Higher Education course of study you will not be eligible to receive the award.

Payments are subject to continuing and satisfactory attendance and progression on the course.
