Examinations, In-Class Tests & Assessed Work

Helping our students with specific needs which will impact their examinations and assessment while studying.

Examinations & In-Class Tests

Some students may have specific requirements for their examinations and in-class tests. The recommendations made vary depending on the recommendations made in their study needs assessment and/or Educational Psychologist's report.

Examples of such requirements are:

  • Extra time.
  • Use of a scribe or reader.
  • Room with minimal distraction.
  • Use of a computer.
  • Exam papers in a large font.

These arrangements need to be made well in advance of any formal assessments, in-class tests and examinations in line with the Individual Examination Arrangements Procedure for Disabled Students. Please contact the Disability Advisor if you have previously had any specific arrangements for examinations, or you feel you need to discuss this issue.

Assessed Work – Essays & Assignments

The Disability Service cannot agree to extended deadlines for any work. If you are unable to meet deadlines on occasion please talk to the relevant tutor and negotiate an acceptable alternative. If you are regularly struggling to meet deadlines, you may need to speak to your Disability Advisor about your support.

They may ask you to submit an application for mitigating circumstances. If you have not yet had support for your disability or specific learning difficulty, or you have provided the Disability Service with evidence of a fluctuating health condition, your Disability Advisor may be able to write a letter to support your application. Please contact us to discuss this.

Please note that disabled students are not permitted to have two-week automatic extensions, you need to see your tutor and negotiate an extension each and every time you require one.
