On Friday 30 November 2018, the North West of England’s first-ever TEDxSalon event will take place at the University of Bolton. Sir Cary Cooper CBE, one of the world’s most influential Psychologists, is to headline the first TEDxSalon in the North West of England The inaugural TEDxSalon event will explore the theme ‘’In the Psychologist’s Chair” featuring Professor Sir Cary Cooper CBE, one of the world’s most influential Psychologists.

Sir Cary will be joined by our own Professor of Psychology, Jerome Carson, one of the UK’s experts on mental health and wellbeing. The TEDx movement found its way to Greater Manchester a few years ago. The global impact and success of the TEDxUniversityofBolton event year after year has found TEDxUniversityofBolton hosting the first TEDxSalon in the North West of England. TEDxUniversityofBolton creates a unique experience where the world’s greatest thinkers congregate to share what they are most passionate about. Professor Carson, said of Professor Sir Cary Cooper: “Cary is a highly knowledgeable professional, a charismatic communicator, and a global spokesperson on organisational wellbeing as a means to improve our productivity and engagement at work.” Professor Sir Cary Cooper was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2001 Birthday Honours for his contribution to occupational/organisational health and was knighted in the 2014 Birthday Honours for services to social science. ‘’Cary is the author or editor of over 250 books and has written over 500 scholarly articles on topics including group processes, mergers, women at work, well-being and stress. He is also a frequent contributor to national newspapers, TV and radio’’, and has helped to create journals, book series and several professional bodies,” Professor Carson added. Bolu Oyesola, the President of Bolton Students’ said: “TEDxUniversityofBolton is an excellent initiative to expose the University of Bolton’s student body to new and different ways of thinking. I am sure it will be a day of wonder, inspiration and awe, fully organised by dedicated students of the University of Bolton.” The TEDx organising team hopes to inspire, encourage, and celebrate academic thinking through these talks. The TEDxUniversityofBolton talks hosted on the TED platform, have been viewed more than 70 thousand times. ‘‘At a university that grants students with the acumen and qualifications necessary to succeed both in their careers and lives, TEDxUniversityofBolton seeks to enrich that experience outside the classroom with inspiring talks and performances showcasing talent from within the University of Bolton and beyond’’, said Ianis G. Matsoukas PhD, Assistant Teaching Professor in Biomedical Sciences and Curator of TEDxUniversityofBolton’. ‘‘On TEDxUniversityofBolton we’re building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world’s most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. In fact, everything we do in TEDxUniversityofBolton is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas? Sir Cary is an excellent communicator and disseminator of high-quality research findings. His scholarly contribution has reached out not only to managers and practitioners but also to governments, policy-makers and the general public.
