Young people who completed The Prince’s Trust Team programme were honoured at a presentation evening at the University of Bolton. The team programme is a (twelve-week) employability skills course designed to support young people back into work, education or training. During the course, the young people from Bolton attended a week-long team building residential, completed a two-week work placement and undertook a number of community projects. The team raised more than £600 and contributed over 120 hours of voluntary work towards projects. Jessica Browning, Delivery Partner Co-ordinator, from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, which delivers the programme in partnership with Bury College, said the University of Bolton supported The Prince’s Trust programme in a number of ways. “We use computer rooms in the university to complete skills tests with the young people, the university hosts the presentation evening at the end of every course and offers mock interview sessions. “It also provides financial support to purchase all the young people’s outfits appropriate for interviews which they are wearing at the presentation. “Working in this way with the university allows young people to experience a new educational setting and helps to raise their aspirations, as a number of them decided to move back into education following the course. “It also offers them a tangible reminder that there are organisations who place value in the potential of young people.”
