In this blog, we will take a closer look at the legal world and how you and your career aspirations can fit into it. Although Law is a subject that students begin to learn during their sixth form studies, the prestigious roles available mean some dream of heading into a Law career, from a young age. By the end of this blog, you’ll know a little more and discover other famous faces who were inspired to advance into a legal profession.

Career opportunities

One of the most common choices that young people make is to become a ‘lawyer’ although, this isn’t a single role and, in fact, there are many types of lawyer. Not only that, but there are also professions such as a solicitor, paralegal, legal executive, legal secretary and patent attorney. One typical venture is to become a barrister.

A barrister traditionally holds the role of handling cases in a court of law, for either the prosecution or defence. Commonly specialising in litigation and courtroom advocacy, a career as a barrister could see you involved in some of the most in-depth and compelling cases in the country. Some barristers work in environmental law, some in immigration but most desire to work in criminal and help make society a safer place to live in.

Day-to-day, barristers draft documents for future cases, research all the evidence of the case, or even write letters to try and settle cases outside of court. Each case is unique, so for many barristers, each day brings new and exciting challenges.

In the spotlight

As we mentioned before, many people aspire for a career in law from a young age, including famous Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson. Although the comedic, larger-than-life actress rose to fame after her role as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect, she continued with her law degree and now has a license to practice in Australia.
