Why Technological Advances Mean Now is the Time to Enjoy a Career in Biomedical Engineering

Choosing a career path is not always easy. Finding something that you enjoy and have an aptitude for is always the right place to start. It also helps if it is a growth area where you are likely to find a position once you have completed your degree. Biomedical engineering is one such growth area. Biomedical engineering companies are experiencing a surge in interest and investment and are actively recruiting the best and brightest students to fill new positions.

There are numerous reasons why now is the time to enjoy a career in biomedical engineering. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has shifted attention back to the importance of being prepared for anything that nature, science or human intervention can throw at us. The groundwork for many of the treatments being used to combat Covid was already laid by biomedical engineers looking to provide improved treatments for other viruses. Vaccinations that have become available to the public in record time are only possible because biomedical companies are continually looking at new and improved ways of tackling the health and well-being challenges we face as a human race.

But it is not just about the hard work of the biomedical scientists and engineers that have preceded the current cohort. It is also about technology and the advances that make all this possible. Technological advances mean that results can be achieved much more quickly. The human genome project is an excellent example of how medical and scientific progress are inextricably linked with technological advancement. The development of CRISPR (Cluster Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) for gene editing was another major breakthrough that will continue to make a massive difference to the lives of those who in one way or another rely on well-trained biomedical engineers and scientists. Other technologies have allowed for better understanding of the human brain, less invasive early testing procedures, and lower costs, enabling more time and money to go into research, development, and hiring the best talent from the top universities in Manchester, the North West and beyond. If you are considering a career in biomedical or medical engineering, now is the time to choose the right course at the right university.
